The White Liars have submitted our latest short film, "Best Friends Club," to the Sparrow Film Project. In excellent news, this is going to be screened at the Museum of the Moving Image with the other Sparrow entrants on December 5. Tickets can be grabbed here.
We shook up our process on this latest film... Andrew got the submission guidelines (“Resolution” – from Propp’s Morphology of the Folk Tale; The Hero must wear red) and set out solo to knock out this cool little script. He and I didn't confer until after the script was complete.
We then used our pre-pro time together to solidify the beats, consider all the character motivations, and really specify the order of the story. We chatted a lot about visual ideas, character status within the shot, etc. I also storyboarded this film heavier than I have any of my other projects. It was crucial to make sure we were all on the same page, and that the story was told correctly, without giving away too much too soon.
Also, I have to shout out to Jarrett Sullivan and Jessica Ayers who acted as DP and Sound, resepectively... They came out to help us shoot this one on their last Saturday in NYC. That following Tuesday they were in a moving truck on their way to LA. It seemed fitting to have those two on set with us during their last NY weekend. Thanks guys.
